A roofing permit is required for re-roofing and full roof replacement in Oak Park — minor repairs under 100 sq ft of roof covering or less than 10 linear feet of flashing are the primary exceptions; confirm your specific scope with the Village Building Department
Oak Park follows the 2024 International Residential Code (IRC) with local amendments — roofing work must comply with Chapters 8 and 9 of that code for materials and installation methods
A maximum of two layers of any roof covering is allowed; if your home already has two layers, a full tear-off is required before a new roof can be installed
Contractors must be state-licensed and registered with the Village of Oak Park before a permit will be issued — your contractor's license number must appear on the submitted contract or proposal
Permits are applied for online at oak-park.us; permit requirements and fees can change, so always confirm current requirements with the Village of Oak Park Development Services Department before work begins

Rules like these vary by lot and change often — the fastest way to know what applies to your property is to ask.
